A Webquest on Clouds by Mrs. J Glidden

Standard: This WebQuest is correlated to the PA. Academic Standards in Science 3.5.4.C, Reading 1.2.5.A, and Research 1.8.5.B:1.8.5.C.

Audience:

This page is designed for 4th grade students. It is designed for beginning learners of clouds. The students need to be moderately computer literate to complete the work.

Introduction:

When you wake up in the morning wouldn't you like to just look outside and know what to wear to school? When you are in the car looking out the window on your way to the shore do you wonder whether it is going to be a nice day or not? Well, knowing what clouds are in the sky can help you answer many of your questions. After you hear the story The Cloud Book by Tomie de Paola and complete research in the Library, you will be able to answer these questions. So get ready to have fun and learn all at the same time.

Task:

This research requires that you look for books about clouds and weather in the OPAC and carefully explore the websites listed in the RESOURCES section. During your exploring you will complete a chart answering specific questions about clouds. Afterwards, you will be required to demonistrate your knowledge of clouds in several ways. First, you will participate in several activities found on the selected websites. Next you will complete a worksheet detailing the knowledge you have gained.

Process:

  • Locate cloud/weather books on the OPAC and in library. Fill out a worksheet.
  • Explore the websites shown under Resources section. Complete a worksheet.
